Madisen Skinner stepped onto the international stage last week with the U.S. Women’s National Team in Rio de Janeiro.
It was a challenging start to the Volleyball Nations League for the Stars and Stripes, dropping their first three matches against top opposition. Madi saw limited action in the early part of the week, only featuring briefly against reigning Olympic champions Italy in a tough 3-0 loss, and not appearing in the matches versus Brazil and Czechia.
But when her opportunity came, Madi delivered.
In the Americans' final match of Week 1, she played a key role in a much-needed bounce-back victory over Korea. The 23-year-old Opposite notched and impressive 15 points, with a .500 hitting efficiency for the match. All this helped secure a 3-0 sweep (25-13, 28-26, 25-17), salvaging a win from a tricky first week.
The U.S. Women now into Week 2 in Belgrade, Serbia, brimming with confidence. Team USA will take on Serbia, Poland, Netherlands and France starting June 18. They stand 13th in the rankings after the first week of matches, just three points shy of the top eight spots where progression to the Final Round is secured.
