An away victory against Omaha was the highlight of Austin’s March, in a month that saw Chris McGown’s charges suffer a dip in form.
The Texans had finished February in impressive fashion — winning two of their three matches at the LOVB Classic and securing back-to-back triumphs in a home Gameweek 7 double-header.
But they struggled to maintain that form, with a run of three straight defeats against Madison (0-3), Atlanta (1-3) and Houston (1-3).
In hindsight, that trio of teams went on to finish in the top three positions after 16 matches, so they were undoubtedly tricky games for Austin.
And Madi did at least put in an impressive individual performance versus Houston, registering 23 kills — her joint-best regular season output — as well as two blocks, 13 digs and an assist.
Austin eventually snapped their losing streak in Gameweek 11, after winning a topsy-turvy encounter with Omaha.
Madi’s side traveled to the Baxter Arena as part of a Weekend with LOVB event, and came out on the right end of a 3-2 victory.
Omaha took the first set (24-26) before Austin roared back to win consecutive sets by 25-20 and 25-15, respectively.
But the hosts levelled up proceedings (23-25), leading to a tense final set that Austin edged 18-16.
Unfortunately, they weren’t able to repeat the feat in their second clash of the month with the Nebraskans, losing 3-2 on that occasion.
However, Madi did impress in that match-up, as she registered her third double-double of the season (22 kills and 17 digs) with a hitting efficiency of .309.
March’s final game saw Madison beat Austin 3-2 at the Strahan Arena — but things were set to improve dramatically in April, with the LOVB Finals drawing into view.
