Madi matched her season-best tally for kills at the Fort Bend County Epicenter — but it wasn’t enough to stop Austin falling to a 3-1 defeat against Houston.
The 23-year-old put 25 points on the board in her side’s latest outing, after registering 23 kills, two blocks, 13 digs and an assist.
It was an impressive individual display, but Madi will nonetheless be disappointed that she couldn’t help her team return to winning ways.
Austin had two set points in the first, before their opponents ultimately won the opening exchange by 27-25.
And they followed that up with a 25-18 win in Set 2, leaving the visitors with plenty to do in order to salvage the match.
Chris McGown’s team did triumph in the third set (19-25) — however it was to no avail, as Houston wrapped up the result with a 25-22 victory in Set 4.
“These are really tough losses but we played really good volleyball for long stretches, but just didn't make the plays when we needed to,” said head coach McGown after the game.
“We had them in the first, we had them in the fourth, and they were able to chip back.
“Credit to them, obviously great players and great athletes doing great things on that side of the net. I feel like we're really close.”
Saturday’s result means Houston solidify their grip on second spot after Gameweek 10, while Austin are in fifth after a trio of consecutive losses.
They will have a good opportunity to get back on track next weekend, though, when the Texans take on Omaha and Atlanta in a double-header at the Baxter Arena.
