Who are the United States’ opponents?
The USA are set to take on Türkiye in the FIVB Volleyball World Championship quarter-finals.
Madi’s team progressed past Canada (3-0) during Monday’s last 16 match-up, while their upcoming opponents swept Slovenia later that evening.
Where is the game being played?
As with their previous knockout match, the United States will play against Türkiye in Bangkok, Thailand’s capital.
Every remaining game in the tournament is scheduled to take place at the 8000-seat Indoor Stadium Huamark, following renovations to the venue earlier this year.
Forming part of the Hua Mak Sports Complex, this arena has primarily been used for volleyball, futsal, badminton, basketball and boxing since it was first opened in 1966.
However it has also hosted plenty of pop concerts, from Take That and Westlife to Def Leppard and Pearl Jam.
What time does the match get underway?
The game is due to start at 8.30pm ICT on Thursday 4th September, following Brazil’s clash with France earlier in the evening.
In fact, it’s the last quarter-final to get underway, with Netherlands vs Japan and Italy vs Poland taking place on Wednesday.
For fans on the West Coast, the United States’ match begins at 6.30am PDT, while it’s 9.30am EDT if you’re on the East Coast.
Opposition guide
Türkiye made light work of Pool E during the World Championship’s group stage, winning all three of their matches against Spain (3-0), Bulgaria (3-0) and Canada (3-0).
A trio of sweeps — including against the USA’s last 16 opponents — demonstrated their prowess, and Daniele Santarelli’s outfit are likely to be the toughest team Madi and co have faced so far.
In fact, Türkiye are yet to lose a single set in Thailand, having also swept Slovenia in their first knockout match.
Opposite hitter Melissa Vargas is the team’s top scorer to date, having amassed a total of 70 points so far across the tournament.
Anything else to know?
Madi is coming into this game off the back of a commendable display in the last 16 match-up against Canada.
She put 12 points on the board in that game (10 kills, a block and an ace) taking her total for the competition to 40 points.
Türkiye are sure to provide our LOVB Austin star with a tough test, but her continued form will be crucial to the United States’ chances of reaching the semi-finals.
