The United States’ 2025 Volleyball Nations League campaign reached its conclusion on Wednesday, following a 3-0 defeat to Italy at the quarter-final stage.
Erik Sullivan’s team knew that a tough encounter would be in store against the competition’s top-seeds — and so it proved when the sides met in Łódź, Poland.
It was the US who scored the first three points of the match — including an ace from Madi — and at one stage led 7-4, before Italy roared back to take the first set by 25-22.
The No.1-ranked outfit in the world then went on to claim a 25-21 win in Set 2, before wrapping things up with a 28-26 result in the third and final set.
Madi contributed five points from four kills and an ace across the match, but couldn’t stop Julio Velasco outfit from maintaining a remarkable 27-game winning streak.
Italy will now face a semi-final against hosts Poland, while the U.S. Women’s National Team’s attention turns to the 2025 FIVB World Championship in August.
And Sullivan feels his unit have made significant progress during the Volleyball Nations League, ahead of that tournament in Thailand.
“I think the progress we have made since we got in the gym in May has been great,” he said, when speaking after yesterday’s encounter.
“I thought we played really hard. We still have to figure out some moments where we just give the other team too much opportunity.
“We were much more competitive to play that same roster two months later. I’m real proud of that but we still have some work to do.”
The United States’ first FIVB World Championship match will take place on 22nd August, when they face Slovenia in Nakhon Ratchasima.
