Who are the United States’ opponents?
The U.S. Women’s National Team are set to take on four sides during their 2025 Volleyball Nations League preliminary round trip to Belgrade.
Hosts Serbia are their first opponents, ahead of a clash with Poland. The United States then face the Netherlands, before rounding things off by taking on France.
Where are the games being played?
All of the United States’ Week 2 games will take place at the 18,386-capacity Belgrade Arena, in the Novi Beograd district of Serbia’s capital.
Opened in 2004, this state-of-the-art venue has hosted a wide variety of sporting events, including Crvena zvezda and Partizan Belgrade EuroLeague basketball matches and the 2009 FIVB World League final between Serbia and Brazil.
A number of significant non-sporting events have also been held there, such as the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest and a selection of top-tier musical acts — from Elton John and Beyoncé to Iron Maiden and Guns N' Roses.
What time do the matches get underway?
The U.S. Women’s National Team’s first match against Serbia is something of an outlier time-wise, getting underway at 11am PDT on Wednesday 18th June.
All three of the United States’ following matches start at 7.30am PDT, though. Their game against Poland takes place on Thursday 19th June, before they face the Netherlands on Saturday 21st June.
Madi’s final match in Belgrade will be on Sunday 22nd June, when the United States play France.
Opposition guide
Serbia can build on their best-ever third-place finish at the 2022 Volleyball Nations League this summer — but Zoran Terzić’s team will need to improve significantly on their Week 1 displays.
They lost all four of their opening matches, leaving the Week 2 hosts second-bottom of the rankings.
It was a different story for Poland, however, who sit fourth after winning three out of four matches to date — beating Thailand, China and Belgium, but losing to Türkiye.
The Netherlands can be content with two victories so far (against Canada and Bulgaria), but France will perhaps be disappointed to only have triumphed against Belgium in this year’s competition.
Anything else to know?
It was a challenging Week 1 for the U.S. Women’s National Team in Rio de Janeiro.
Erik Sullivan’s side didn’t get off the mark until their fourth game — losing 3-0 to Italy before being swept by hosts Brazil, then suffering defeat versus Czechia (3-2).
But the United States did finally taste victory against South Korea, with Madi starring in a 3-0 triumph.
She recorded a 15 point-haul with a .500 hitting efficiency in that match — and will harbor hopes of adding to her tally in Belgrade this week.
